Satyajit Ray Satyajit Ray, (1921-1992) is one of the undisputed masters of cinema, and arguably India’s greatest filmmaker. His films, set largely in his home state of Bengal and often adapted from classic works of Bengali literature, range from dramas about rural peasant life to middle-class character studies to pointed socio-political satires.
